about
"What We Want, What We Need" is an intimate examination of the dissonance created in relationships when our desires are at odds with our needs.
Since the fall of 2019, I've released a series of singles that examine coming-of-age angst, the disillusionment of the new American Dream, and the obstacles of forming an identity, exploring sexuality, and developing healthy romantic relationships in the modern digital age. "What We Want, What We Need" is the sixth single in this series, preceded by Candy Scented Scars (2020), Sometimes Laughter (2020), Wild Horses (2020), Rock the Cradle (2019), and Like James Dean (2019).
lyrics
Her mind has always been a violent storm
Hidden by the tender night, cradled in its warmth
Her eyes held secrets like a summer rain
What she wants and what she needs are two different things
What she wants and what she needs are two different things
My words have always been a vacant vow
Shrouded in an endless night, cradled in its doubt
My tongue sings secrets into the wind
What I want and what I need are two different things
What I want and what I need are two different things
Two young lovers branded on each other's brain
The ties that bind us still remain
Chasing shadows knowing everything has changed
What we want and what we need are two different things
What we want and what we need are two different things
What we want and what we need are two different things
What we want and what we need
