A sentimental moon and I can make out a voice Breathing like a dog in heat A wild wind and I can hear through the noise A whisper and she takes me Back to the bridge, to the boats on the harbor To the wild and empty promises Juliet eyes and I could walk on the water A whisper and she takes me Chase her to the back of my mind, to the sirens that sing And it cuts me off beneath the knees I remember choking on a diamond ring Another whisper and she takes me

A twitch of the eye and I can see it coming Your sweetheart smile don't hide nothing You've been talking in your sleep But you ain't talking about me Honey, you were ready to leave when you put your bags down Honey, you were ready to leave Honey, you were ready to leave when you put your bags down The human heart and a wandering mind Desire to be loved but only half the time You've been sneaking around and you don't call Coming home late if you come home at all Honey, you were ready to leave when you put your bags down Honey, you were ready to leave Honey, you were ready to leave when you put your bags down A twitch of the eye and I'll be long gone, gone, gone Leave you lonely and drunk wondering what went wrong And when you're laying next to him I hope his love runs cold and you end up alone again Honey, you were ready to leave when you put your bags down Honey, you were ready to leave Honey, you were ready to leave Honey, you were ready to leave when you put your bags down When you put your bags down

Broken Waltz 04:31
Burning ears in a bedroom Restless feet of a restless bridegroom On and on and on she cries On and on and on she cries Bitter tears on a white dress Make-up stains on the sheets in protest On and on and on she cries On and on and on she cries We move our feet to the broken waltz We move our feet to the broken waltz 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops, 'til the music stops 'til the music stops and the floor drops out I am a heartless bastard Candle wax on her favorite record On and on and on she cries On and on and on she cries I am a heartless bastard Snake-oil love in a bottle of aspirin On and on and on she cries On and on and on she cries We move our feet to the broken waltz We move our feet to the broken waltz 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops, 'til the music stops 'til the music stops and the floor drops out I am just an animal and I am just a caged heart If you beat me I'll always come back for more 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops, 'til the music stops 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops and the floor drops out 'til the music stops, 'til the music stops 'til the music stops and the floor drops out I am just an animal and I am just a caged heart If you beat me I'll always come back, I'll always come back, I'll always come back If you beat me I'll always come back for more

We numbered the stars and counted all the satellites Folded paper airplanes and flew 'em from the balcony at night Someone else's innocence, someone else's fall Someone else's height marks on the kitchen wall On the kitchen wall Cut me open and shut me down I don't wanna taste the bittersweet, I don't wanna hear the bitter sound Cut me open and shut me down I don't wanna taste the bittersweet, I don't wanna hear the bitter sound The bitter sound Your kiss was Sunday sweet and I'd never tasted love before With bleeding hearts we melted into each other's arms on the bedroom floor Someone else's photographs, someone else's bed Someone else's demons screaming in my head Screaming in my head Cut me open and shut me down I don't wanna taste the bittersweet, I don't wanna hear the bitter sound Cut me open and shut me down I don't wanna taste the bittersweet, I don't wanna hear the bitter sound The bitter sound Someone else's memories, someone else's dreams Sliding across the hardwood in the summer heat In the summer heat Cut me open and shut me down I don't wanna taste the bittersweet, I don't wanna hear the bitter sound Cut me open and shut me down I don't wanna taste the bittersweet, I don't wanna hear the bitter sound I don't wanna taste the bittersweet, I don't wanna hear the bitter sound The bitter sound

Put a feather in your hair A cross around your neck and a rose between your teeth Put a feather in your hair In a faded flower dress meet me in the reeds In the wild untamed August air Put a feather in your hair Put a feather in your hair Put a feather in your hair Aching in your chest and lilies on your tongue Put a feather in your hair In your mother's wedding dress meet me in the fog In the wild untamed August air Put a feather in your hair I will wait only for you I will wait, I will wait I will wait only for you I will wait, I will wait In the wild untamed August air Put a feather in your hair

White-washed walls and hardwood floors I remember you with blonde hair and a big-screen jaw Roaming through the streets in the middle of the night The smack from the back of a hand in the back of my mind The things I should've said The things I should've done I should've slid down and stepped in But I was already gone We were waiting for a break in the silence We were waiting for a break in the silence, in the silence A break in the silence, a break in the silence I was at school on the east coast It was 3 a.m. when I heard the sound of a weeping ghost Roaming through the streets in the middle of the night The smack from the back of a hand in the back of my mind The things I should've said The things I should've done I should've slid down and stepped in But I was already gone We were waiting for a break in the silence We were waiting for a break in the silence, in the silence A break in the silence, a break in the silence The things I should've said The things I should've done I should've slid down and stepped in But I was already gone We were waiting for a break in the silence We were waiting for a break in the silence, in the silence A break in the silence, a break in the silence

Warm lips on the back of my neck Oh, I'm spinning in circles chasing her shadow silhouette These fever dreams leave me dizzy in the head I wake up shaking in the darkness with an aching in my chest An aching in my chest Take me in your tender arms, roll me in the dirt Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls And then when the sun sets low, roll me in the dirt Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls I never believed in love Oh, they tease you with the kiss, they'll tease you with the tongue Oil on leather, brown eyes to stone Oh, they lead you to the water and they leave you there to drown They're gonna leave you there to drown Take me in your tender arms, roll me in the dirt Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls And then when the sun sets low, roll me in the dirt Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls Take me in your tender arms, roll me in the dirt Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls And then when the sun sets low, roll me in the dirt Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls Cover me in roses, cover me in pearls Cover me in roses

We were wild and young, we were on the run We were lovers staring blindly at the sun Polaroids left in the heat I remember love the way it ought to be Twenty blowing across my back Thirty breathing down my neck Wasted, wasted, wasted, wasted Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain Now we're spinning wheels and we're on our heels And we hurt each other just to feel something that's real The polaroids have turned to dust And sunsets planted gold have turned to rust Twenty blowing across my back Thirty breathing down my neck Wasted, wasted, wasted, wasted Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain Twenty blowing across my back Thirty breathing down my neck Wasted, wasted, wasted, wasted Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain Chewing on links in a chain

The fear of falling behind Dances in a restless mind Sleepwalk in a childhood home Chasing shadows of yesterday's ghosts The fear of losing touch Going crazy from thinking too much A little dizzy and a little bit numb A little confused and a little bit drunk Be my catcher in the wheat field Cradle my innocence Be my catcher in the wheat field Cradle my innocence The fear of getting old Paper skin on brittle bones Brand your face onto my brain So as the sun sets I'll remember your name Be my catcher in the wheat field Cradle my innocence Be my catcher in the wheat field Cradle my innocence A warm breeze through the window screens Shatters the streetlights into a million memories A warm breeze through the window screens Shatters the streetlights into a million memories Be my catcher in the wheat field Cradle my innocence Be my catcher in the wheat field Cradle my innocence Be my catcher in the wheat field Cradle my innocence Be my catcher in the wheat field Cradle my innocence

Shuffling feet Skin to skin in the heat We open ourselves to love and hate And all that lies between Seventeen and shy Smart enough to know but dumb enough to try She opened her hand, put her arm around my waste And laced her fingers with mine Lie, lie lie, maybe, I know why Lie, lie lie, maybe, I know why The young men smile and the old men just sit there and cry The young men smile and the old men just sit there and cry Festival fires Carousel lights and trapeze wires We open ourselves and lead with our lips And kiss with innocent desires Lie, lie lie, maybe, I know why Lie, lie lie, maybe, I know why The young men smile and the old men just sit there and cry The young men smile and the old men just sit there and cry A trembling voice With a kiss and smile she made her choice Face to face at a primal pace We fell into the void Lie, lie lie, maybe, I know why Lie, lie lie, maybe, I know why The young men smile and the old men just sit there and cry The young men smile and the old men just sit there and cry Lie, lie lie, maybe, I know why Lie, lie lie, maybe, I know why Maybe, I know why

about

On Wild Empty Promises, Holden Laurence builds on the foundations of early alternative by combining elements of Mope-rock (The Cure), Post-punk (The Smiths), and New Wave (Echo & the Bunnymen) with skin-and-bones Americana (Ryan Adams). Vintage synths, chorus-laden guitars, and steady grooves highlight an expansive sound that complements his vulnerable and vivid songwriting.
